A new year, a fresh page.  A chance to turn over a new leaf and re-invent yourself.  So many possibilities.

Resolutions don't work for me.  I start out with good intentions but usually fizzle out pretty quick so this year I've decided to try Ali Edwards' class at Big Picture Classes - "One Little Word".

It's about choosing a word and concentrating on that word for the year to help bring about changes.  So my OLW?  CHANGE.  So many things need to change, others things are happening so I know change is going to happen whether I like it or not, and so many other things I just want to change.  So CHANGE seemed like an obvious word for me.  It's a year long class with monthly prompts.  If you're interested you can check it out at Big Picture Classes.

Another new thing for me this year is turning 40.  That's right - 40.  Whether or not I'm ready it's going to happen and I thought I'd like to commemorate the occasion by participating in a class by Kerri Bradford called "The History Project".

It's all about recording your history (from years 0-20).  It's not a scrapbooking class so much as a journaling class.  Each week for the entire year you get an email encouraging you to remember and record an activity or memory from your childhood.  I bought a book at Chapters last year that has prompts in it to encourage you to record this stuff but I never started it, so this book is going to be my journal to record the prompts from Kerri.

The other big project for me is Project Life.  I have been reading and following others all last year as they record their family's everyday life and I have decided to take the plunge and try it myself.  Check on the image below to go watch Becky's video about Project Life.

I love scrapbooking and creating layouts but I'm getting kind of burned out from feeling a) like I'm behind b) I'm missing day to day stuff that is priceless (Kate is 3 1/2 and she says the cutest things I have no where to record them "at that moment" and c) I'm tired of scrapbooking the mundane everyday occasions.  I want to scrapbook stories and memories and special thoughts and wishes.  So PL is going to get all the day to day stuff and I'll save my layouts for meaningful stuff.

The last big thing for me this year is my commitment to myself not to buy scrapbook supplies for 1 whole year!  I know - impossible you say!  I need to do this.  I spend WAY too much on this stuff and have WAY too much.  So this year I am going to just suck it up and get by on what I already own.  Now that being said I have made a few "exceptions".  Adhesive I can buy.  Albums I can buy (although I do have a couple to use first).  and I can use any money earned from scrapbooking for scrapbooking.  ie the money from getting published in CK magazine is mine to spend on scrapbooking.  I am also going on at least one if not two scrapbooking retreats this year (I go every year and they are my sanity saver weekends so those stay!).  Six days into the new year and I haven't bought anything yet but we'll see how long I last!!

So some big commitments and big CHANGES (see how that keeps sneaking in there?) for me this year.  I'll try and post about each of them as I work through them.

Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
